Are the number of text messages sent each def over Or under the population Sf the planet? Hello Professional Development Team, I just got off the phone with one of our potential professional developent people, Dave Miller (Director of Distance Leaming) from the Loraine County Distance Learning Consortium (LCDLC). He asked some good questions about our professional development (PD) program- needs and wants, which made me realize that it would be helpful to know the following information 1.) What is our budget for PD offerings &/or maximum price that we can pay for a workshop? |s this budget brokien dewn into subcategories with a certain amount of money going to different areas such as: food, facility, presenter, empioyee mileage, etc. = Itwas diffcult for me to get a price quote from Dave when | had no idea about an acceptable cost. While | Would never reveal our budget, it would be helpful to know this upfront in order to avoid contacting thase PD providers that are “out of our league.” He quoted me $1,000 for two employees and would also like to be reinbursed for his travel expenses- mileage | am assuming 2.) What length does a PD workshop need to be in order to be awarded CEUs? Spm is the time frame | provided, but lam not sure if this will saify ceu requirents 2.) Are we required to use certain facilities for PD days? Is there a set location, Ex. midway bin Columbus & Cincy? -| ask this fortwo reasons. Since Dave's travel lime is 2.6+ hours from Loraine County in Cleveland to ‘Columbus and he did not seem to be able to travel further South, | tld him Columbus would be okay. Daye proposed a break out session for part ofthe afternoon where OCA teachers can meet by grade level band and have hands-on interaction with the new technologies as well as work together on integration of these technologies into our Adobe interface. | have heard, from the HS teachers at least, that they would like an application aspect to what they are learning during a PD day, so | was excited for him to suggest such an idea, however, in order to do this we need to have a faciliy with a computer lab._Itwould be difficult for him to provide Us with assistance and have a sharing session atthe end in our offices with cincy staff also present and the cubicle set-up. In addition, some ofthese technologies may require a ot of bandwidth, especially if we are all using them at ones, Thus, we need a facilly with guaranted intemet as well asa high speed connection of T-1/T-3, | am thinking that our best bet for such a facility would be an educational institution such as OSU, OU, DeVry, ora library, Then again, i there are enough teachers with personal laptops as well as wireless connection capability, perhaps we can avoid the need for a computer lab. 4))Is there a school calendar available for next school year, even if not everything has been finalized. We need to take events such as: holidays (those OCA students have and we do not) testing and the final day for each semester into consideration, PD days for next year. Right now we are speaking inthe range of Aug 15- Nov 15. 5.) How many PD days are we looking into at arranging? Are the PD days to be spread out over a certain amount of time-like one first semester and one second semester? 6.) Will the teachers vote as a whole on the PD day topics? Dave can set up a survey that the OCA staff will use to communicate their preferences :) 7.) Are we interested in learning about other facilites that could provide us with distance learning lessons using LLL? Since there isa fee for such lessons ($75 each- unlimited students is my understanding by LL can only manage about 35-60) and OCA teachers are currently providing all ofthe realtime virtual intnction, | told him that we were not interested at this time; however, I wanted to make sure. We could use one of these lessons es a vitual schoo! field trip, especially for those students who are unable to attend our face to face file trips. Since we didn't have a meeting today, | wanted to provide a written update :) Eileen Ulry HS Science Teacher https://webmail.connectionsacademy.com/exchange/culry/Drafts/RE:%20Professional%20... 5/14/2008
