Write a brief essay answering the following question: 150 words
Compare and contrast a form, school, or genre of art/thought (i.e. drama, architecture, painting, sculpture, philosophy, religion, literature, etc.) and describe how it developed over three historical periods (Ancient, Mediaeval, Modern); and/or how it varied within three distinct cultures or civilizations. Define the characteristics of the specific form, school, or genre you are examining and discuss which qualities differed and which were similar or remained constant over time or between diverse cultures. Part II Write a brief essay answering the following question: 150 words Define and explain what the humanities are and what a humanist is. Be sure to list the fields that are encompassed by the definitions. Discuss how our contemporary definition of the humanities differs from that of the Middle Ages. How do values play a role in the humanities? Discuss how you have developed an appreciation for the relevance of the humanities by explaining how they relate to your personal and/or professional life; for example, how has/will new knowledge, skills, and attitudes learned in this course apply to your chosen career? Part III write a brief essay answering the question: 150 words If you could spend a few hours with any major figure in one of the humanities (music, literature, fine arts, architecture, dance, philosophy), who would you select and why? What would you do during that time? What questions would you ask him or her? Part IV write a brief essay answering the question: 150 words Discuss one of the following movements in the Modern World: Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Fauvism, Cubism, Futurism, Expressionism, Dada, Bauhaus, Surrealism. Explain the issues and techniques involved during the time. Use specific dated examples of works.
