Can We Solarize Our County Now? Yes, We Can! Hear How.

Chautauqua County League of Women Voters has scheduled our first Fall
luncheon program for Wednesday, September 16, 2015. Melissa Kemp,
Director of Solar Tompkins, will be our featured luncheon speaker. We will
meet at the Shorewood Country Club at noon to enjoy our luncheon
selections. Following lunch, Melissa and other representatives will share a
powerpoint guideline of their highly successful Solar Tompkins Program.
Solar Tompkins is a nonprofit community-based organization focused on
promoting the rapid adoption of renewable energy in Tompkins County, NY.
In 2014, Solar Tompkins hosted a county-wide community solar program
that exceeded its goal of doubling the total amount of residential solar PV
installed to date, and leaving the market with a permanently increased
annual rate of solar power adoption.
The Solar Tompkins program has drawn inspiration from successful
Solarize Projects across the country including those in Massachusetts,
Connecticut, Oregon and the recent Solarize Tompkins SE project in 2013.
Their programs feature important elements of the general Solarize model,
but have been modified to meet local needs and the requirements of scale.
These programs eliminate the few remaining barriers to renewable energy
adoption by providing:
1) attractive lower-than-market pricing
2) a simple process with vetted technology and installation partners
3) educational outreach throughout the county on the practicality of
renewable energy
4) a community-wide program to build enthusiasm and generate the
impetus for adoption now!
