PRESSURE TRANSIENT TESTING

HOMEWORK 7 SOLUTIONS

1. Please follow the steps as described in the textbook to rework Example 4.1.
The basic assumptions of the Gringarten-Bourdet type curves are that the well has constant
wellbore storage, constant skin factor, and produces at a constant rate from an infinite acting
reservoir. Some of these assumptions can be worked around. For example, a multi-rate history
can be pressure normalized, before analysis using the type curves. The type curves work for single
phase flow of both oil and gas in the reservoir. For gas reservoirs, the diagnostic plots are plotted
with adjusted time and adjusted pressure.
2. Please follow the steps as described in the textbook to rework Example 4.2.
For buildup tests, the basic assumptions vary with the procedure used. If we see that the shut-in
time is much less than the production time, we can plot the shut-in time vs. the pressure
difference during the shut-in, to perform the analysis. If it can be assumed that the well produces
in IARF throughout the production and shut-in periods, the time variable can be replaced by the
Agarwal equivalent time to perform an analysis similar to the drawdown type curve analysis.
