Apron flashing 3EEUNDER&LASHINGS
Astragal See straps.
Barge A finishing at the gable end of a
roof, fixed parallel to the roof slope.
BRITEWITE Painted underside of
BONDEK to improve ceiling appearance.
BMT Base metal thickness
Box gutter A gutter not at an eave, typically
at the base of two opposing roof slopes.
Capping A cover at the top of a
gap that weatherproofs, typically
at the ridge of a pitched roof.
Chimney gutter 3EE&LASHING
- Soaker flashing
Cladding Sheeting that encloses a building
roofing and walling.
COLORBOND Pre-painted aluminiumzinc coated steel sheeting.

Concealed-fastened
A method of fixing cladding by means
of hidden, fixing clips or brackets
(sometimes called secret fixing).
Downpipe A pipe to carry roof water
from gutters and roof catchments
to drains or storage tanks.
Drop See pop.
Eaves gutter A roof gutter attached
at an eaves overhang.
Elbow A fitting used in a downpipe,
to change direction of the
downpipe by about 90 degrees.
Electrolytic (galvanic) corrosion
Corrosion resulting from the contact
of two different metals when an
electrolyte (like water) is present.
Expansion joint A joint in a long
run of cladding, gutter or flashing
designed to allow for thermal
expansion and contraction.
Fall (slope) The slope of the roof or
gutter, often expressed in degrees,
or as a ratio of vertical height to
horizontal distance (e.g. 1 in 20).
Fascia (fascia board)
A board, or rolled metal product of
similar dimensions, fixed along the
eaves, to which a gutter is secured.
Fixings Screws, nails or clouts used to
fasten cladding to a building structure.
Flashing A material, usually metal,

used to waterproof the junction
between two intersecting roof and/
or wall surfaces. At a masonry wall,
it is often built into the mortar.
Apron flashing
A horizontal flashing installed
where the top end of a roof slope
meets a vertical projection, such
as a chimney or parapet wall.
Counter (or over) flashing
A flashing dressed down as a cover
only, over a separate upstand.
Hanging flashing side, front or back
cover piece used to prevent entry of
water between abutting surfaces and
other gutters, flashings and soakers.
Soaker flashing&ORMEDMETAL
designed to weatherproof the
perimeter of roof protrusions or
penetrations. Soaker flashings are
usually positioned under rather than
over the surrounding metal roof.
GALVASPAN Galvanised steel
sheeting protected against corrosion
by a zinc coating applied by the
continuous hot-dip process.
Girth The width of the blank strip
from which a profile is rolled (usually
refers to gutters and flashings).
Gutter A channel that collects roof
water and carries it to an outlet.
Rainhead A box-shaped receptacle

sometimes used between gutters
and downpipes to provide an
external overflow point.
R-value A value given for the resistance
to heat transfer of a roof or wall system.
Rib A longitudinal upstand
in cladding.
Ridge capping &ORMEDMETALDESIGNED
to weatherproof the junction at the
apex of opposing roof slopes.
Saddle strap See straps.
Sarking A membrane to collect and
discharge clear of the structure any water
that may penetrate a roof or wall cladding.
Shoe A fitting used in a downpipe,
to change direction of the
downpipe by about 45 degrees.
Soaker (gutter) A small gutter located
on the upper side of a chimneystack.
Soaker (flashings) See under flashings.
Sole The internal, bottom
surface of a roof gutter.
Spigot See Pop.
Spreader A downpipe-tee or elbow fixed at
90 degrees to the roof slope used to spread
stormwater over a greater area of the roof.
Mansard A roof built at two pitches, the

steeper pitch commencing at the eaves
and the flatter pitch finishing at the ridge.
Spouting See Gutter.
Nozzle See Pop.
Sump A roof gutter pit used to connect

downpipes to internal roof gutters.
Offset A pipe fitting that directs a

downpipe from the gutter, under the
eaves soffit and down a wall.
Oilcanning Variation from flatness
of sheet metal, creating undulations
along the surface. The result is poor
appearance and potential ponding.
Pan The flat portion between the ribs
in a pan-type pre-formed sheet.
Parapet A wall on the perimeter
of a building that projects above
the line of the eaves.
Penetration A projection through the roof,
e.g. vent pipe, chimney or rooflight.
Pierce-fastened A method of fixing
cladding by means of a screw or
nail which pierces the cladding.
Pitch see fall.
Ponding Pooling of undrained
water on a roof.
Pop A short fitting in a gutter sole,

where rainwater leaves the gutter.
Straps A metal band used to

secure a downpipe to a wall.
Trays See Pan.

Thermal stress Stress due to
expansion and contraction caused
by changes in temperature.
THERMATECH Innovative new paint
technology which improves thermal
performance of roof and wall claddings.
Valley boards Timber or profiled metal
laid under a valley gutter to support it.
ZINCALUME Steel sheeting
protected against corrosion by
an aluminium-zinc coating.

Testing
Our products offer the full benets of the latest methods for
modelling wind pressures. Wind pressure capacity tables are
determined by full-scale tests conducted at BlueScope Lysaghts
NATA registered testing laboratory, using our direct pressuretesting rig.
We also test for concentrated loading (foot trafc) and spring
curving.
Metal & timber compatibility

Contact with, or run-off from, some materials can damage coated
steel products. Buildings can also be susceptible to condensation
on inside surfaces.
The materials include certain metals, treated timbers and
chemicals.

LYSAGHT Zed and Cee sections are accurately roll-formed from
high-strength zinc-coated steel to provide an efficient, lightweight,
economical roofing and cladding support system for framed
structures.
The system includes HOOK-LOK ll bridging, Series 300 and 350

bridging and a wide range of accessories. It is supplied ready for
erection.
Material specifications
LYSAGHT Zed and Cee sections are roll-formed from
GALVASPAN steel complying with AS13972001. In the grades
shown, the number prexed with G indicates minimum yield
stress in MPa; and the number prexed with Z indicates minimum
coating mass in g/m2.

Purlin Product Coding

The coding of the purlin products consists of prefix
letters followed by a series of numbers.
The prefix letters are for the various purlin shapes and consist of:
SZ = LYSAGHT SUPAZED shape
SC = LYSAGHT SUPACEE shape
The letter prefix is then followed by a three digit number
indicating the section nominal depth in millimetres (not the actual
depth). Thus the nominal depths would be 150, 200, 250, 300, 350
or 400.
This is then followed by a two digit number designating section

thickness. This would be 10 for 1.0mm BMT, up to 30 for
3.0mm BMT.
&OREXAMPLE3:DESIGNATESA LYSAGHT SUPAZED 200
millimetres nominal depth and 1.2 BMT.
Where reference is made to both purlin shapes of the same
size then designation such as SZ/SC is used, similarly for other
shapes.

This is a bridging system used with the larger 300 and
350 sections.
The components consist of a C15015 or SC15015
channel and bridging ends assembled with LYSAGHT
high strength M12 x 30mm purlin bolts.
All components are galvanised for long life and
can be assembled using the recommended bolts.

LYSAGHT TOPSPAN light structural sections are the
economical alternative to timber battens. They are lighter than
timber and frequently used for roong, sheds and garages.

INTERLOK II steel grating is an innovative and economical

interlocking grating system that is suitable for a wide
range of applications such as racking, shelving,
walkways, catwalks, platforms, ramps and decking.
There are male-male and male-female planks, as well as joining
and installation accessories.
Dimensions
The basic plank is nominally 225mm wide x 65mm high, and is
available in either anti-skid (raised teeth on bars) or plain.
Lengths
Stock length = 6075mm.
Lengths from 497mm to 10800mm can be made to special order, in
rib width multiples. Lengths less than 6075mm incur an extra cutting

retrotted to give an existing fence a modern
face-lift.
Available in 1200mm, 1500mm and 1800mm
full fencing heights and a 300mm size to
place at the top of a traditional COLORBOND
steel fence as a decorative feature.
More cost effective than powder-coated

Roof maintenance
Step 1 Roof with leaf litter and dirt

prior to cleaning.
Step 2 Use a hose to blow away

twigs and soften hardened dirt.
Step 3 Use a soft bristle brush to

sweep out the pans. Rinse with water.
Step 4 The roof cladding should be

clean after you rinse.
Step 5 Use a hose to quickly rinse

the underside of gutters and roofs.
Step 6 Ensure all swarf (drill waste)

is removed from the work area.

Gutter maintenance
2) Wear correct protection when

1) A typical gutter clogged with
leaves, twigs & dirt prior to cleaning. clearing leaves and twigs.
3) When litter is removed, the layer

of hardened dirt is revealed below.
4) Rinse the gutter with water to

soften and break up the dirt.
6) When the gutter has been cleaned,

it should look like this.
5) Use a soft bristle brush and sweep

the dirt out. Rinse again.

tested in our NATA-accredited materials science
laboratory, you can be condent that they are 't for
purpose' and will do the job they are designed for.
As most of our gutters, downpipes, ashings and cappings

are also made with COLORBOND steel, they also enjoy a
warranty against corrosion to perforation ranging from 10* to
25* years depending upon the application.

New COLORBOND steel with THERMATECH

technology
The next generation COLORBOND steel incorporates
THERMATECH technology, which provides a new level of thermal
protection by absorbing less heat. Average reduction in solar
absorption across all standard colours is 5%.
Now 14 of the 20 standard COLORBOND steel colours are medium
to light under the BASIX colour classification, which means
reflective foil at the roof may not be required. It also means a drop
of roof insulation R rating may be applicable. Refer to your local
branch for colour availability for these products.
