Contemplative Question
Assignment #1

Answer the following questions as honestly as you can. These will not be distributed to anyone
and are only a part of the class assignment:

1-How does your school promote itself to the public?

We involve the community in several school projects during the year. The school sets up a booth
at the county fair in August to show student activities in and out of the class room. We have an
open house at the beginning of each school year to introduce parents and new students to our
faculty and staff. Parent teacher conferences are held two times a year. Freshman orientation is
held each spring to discuss the curriculum available to incoming freshman. Most of the extra-
curricular activities that students participate and some class projects are reported to the local
newspaper. Our facilities are open for use by the community with school approval. Our county
school system as well as our local school has a web site.

2-How do you as an individual teacher promote yourself to the public?

I encourage all the parents of my students to contact me with any questions or problems they
may have concerning their child or the school. I attend most sporting events and talk to parents
of current and future students as much as possible. I live in the community and am involved in
local government and show my support for anything that involves our school.

3-If you could change your school in more positive ways as it relates to the community, what
would you do?
I would increase the parental involvement in the school by encouraging the formation of a PTO.
I would make the parents feel they are welcome to come to school to discuss any problems that
may arise either academic or personal. I would encourage the community to become involved in
the school related activities and show that support is a two way street.
