Cheryl Duffus

For your first essay, you will take one of your Idea Drafts and develop it into an essay with an
Introduction, Body Paragraphs, and a Conclusion. First Person is acceptable, but remember to
use grammar and vocabulary appropriate for an academic assignment.
The final draft should aspire to fulfill the following objectives:
1. Purpose: Present a personal stand or point of view about a political/economic/social
issue relevant to both yourself and your generation.

2. Practice creating appeals that your audience / generation will respond to and find
convincing. This is how you support your stand. You can appeal to logic, ethics, and
emotions. You can also appeal through your style and tone: straightforward and direct,
humorous, serious.

3. Support your stand with concrete details and description such as facts, statistics,
quotes from our reading, personal experience.

4. Demonstrate why this issue is important to you and why you believe it is important to
your generation why should we care
