M / 202 : Colour Value estimation of oleoresin paprika

and oleoresin capsicum

Purphose
This method is to find the colour value of oleoresin paprika and oleoresin
capsicum.

Apparatus
1. 100 ml volumetric flask
2. 1 ml pipette

Reagent
Acetone LR grade

Procedure
Weight 1.00 gr of oleoresin into a 100 ml volumetric flask and make upto
volume with acetone.
Pipette 1.0 ml of this solution into a second 100 ml volumetric flask and
make upto volume with acetone.
Using a tungsten lamp source and a p 28 photomultiplier tube or
equivalent, zero the spectrophotometer using acetone as blank. Take the
absorbance of the 0.01% solution of oleoresin at 462 nm. Multiply this by
66,000 to obtain the colour value.

Calculation
Colour value = Absorbance at 462 nm x 66,000
