Scientific Method: Create a flow chart illustrating the steps of the scientific method. Analyze the car accident
investigation and match the part of the investigation with the step of the scientific method. All cards are mixed. Please
write answers in Cornell notes.

Hypothesis

The investigator examines the crime

scene and fills out a report.

The investigator must reexamine

evidence and possibly revise his
hypothesis. The evidence may be
inconclusive.

Conclusions

The investigator might order alcohol level

test., check car parts, test drive the car in
different weather conditions, or try to
reproduce the skid marks left by the car.

Interpret/revise
hypothesis

The investigator imagines several likely

scenarios that might have caused the accident.
Maybe the driver was intoxicated, fell asleep, or
was speeding; maybe the car had mechanical
failure; or maybe the weather conditions
affected the cars traction or the drivers ability
to see the road well.

Experiment

The investigator goes to court,

reexamines the evidence, and defends his
theory of how the accident occurred.
