Given that there is high level of knowledge and skills, the success or failure of
any organization depends in the attitude of its member or constituents.
Right attitude is a MUST if you want to go from HERE TO THERE. Right
attitude is a MUST if you want to go from NOTHING TO SOMETHING. Right attitude is
a MUST if you want to go FROM ORDINARY TO EXTRA-ORDINARY. Right attitude
distinguish a good leader from a bad one.
4. Vision Know where you are going
- Leading is giving the people a direction where to go and influencing them
to go there with you
- Proverbs 29: 18 Where there is no vision, the people perish(KJV)
- Proverbs 28:18 Without revelation people run wild
God-given dream is called vision while personal dream is called ambition.
Selfish ambition comes when you force everything to happen in your own
way at your own time just to achieve your dream/desire.
Great vision comes from God. When you neglect God and take Him out of
the picture in your organization, you will just see your picture and every
dream you want to achieve. Most of theVision
problems in the organization are
caused by people who only see themselves and their dreams.

5. Influence
- Influence is not acquired. It is earned throughout life journey.
III. UNDERSTANDING THE 5 LEVELS OF LEADERSHIP (John Maxwell Developing
the Leader Within You)
Position Rights
People follow because they have to. Note: The longer you stay here, the higher the
turnover and the lower the morale of subordinates.
Permission Relationships
People follow because they want to. This level allows work to be fun. Caution:
Staying too long on this level without rising will cause highly motivated people to
become restless.

People follow because of what you have done for the organization. Note: This is
where success is sensed by most people. They like you and what you are doing.
Problems are fixed with very little effort because of momentum.

The reality today is this: You are part of the organization but you are not at
the top leadership. But the organization has put you in a certain level of leadership
position where it believes that you can be a great help to realize the vision of the
organization.
Your personal mission as leader is to bring everyone to the vision of
organization. And to bring everyone to the direction of the organization is to
influence everyone. And you need the genuine leadership because leadership is
influence => influencing everyone to go with you from here to there.
The Myths of Leading from the Middle of an Organization
Myth 1: The Position Myth: I cant lead if I am not at the top
Myth 2: The Destination Myth: When I get to the top, then Ill learn to lead
Myth 3: The Influence Myth: If I were on top, then people would follow me.
Myth 4: The Inexperience Myth: When I get to the top, Ill be in control
Myth 5: The Freedom Myth: When I get to the top, Ill no longer be limited
Myth 6: The Potential Myth: I cant reach my potential if Im not the top leader
Myth 7: The All-or-Nothing Myth: If I cant get to the top, then I wont try to lead
These are myths because some people think that to better lead people is to be at
the top, which is not true.
The TRUTH is you can lead even you are at the middle of an organization.
The TRUTH is you can influence the leader above you to trust you, rely on you, and
look to you for advice.
The TRUTH is you can influence your peers even you have the same position with
them.
The TRUTH is you can influence your subordinates not because you are in higher
position.
V. HOW TO LEAD (INFLUENCE) OTHERS FROM THE MIDDLE? (SOME
APPLICATIONS)
1. Lead yourself well
- Ephesians 4:1 Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead
a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. (NLT)
- Ephesians 4:1 As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life
worthy of the calling you have received. (NIV)

c. Tell true information to your leader, nothing more, and nothing less.
Good leaders want the truth even if it hurts. True information is vital
for creating an effective plan of action.
d. Take an extra effort, extra responsibility and extra thinking
e. Stand up for your leader whenever you can
f. Promote your leader to others
When you lift up your leaders, you become a model to your peers and to
your subordinates. You are demonstrating them to do the same because it
is the right thing to do. Your peers and subordinates will likely help you to
lighten your load. If that happens, you earned the opportunity to influence
them. It means, it increases your leadership level.
When you do good to others, God will reward you: Ephesians 6:7-8 Serve
wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men, 8 because you
know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does

Desire to be a good leader. What makes the difference between a good leader
and other kind of leader is the heart.
Luke 6:45 (NLT) A good person produces good things from the treasury of a
good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil
heart.
Good leaders possessed good heart and they produce good things. Good
leaders do not just focus in achieving the goals of the organization but helping also
others to achieve their personal goals and dreams. Good leaders do not just add
value to the organization but they also add value to the people in the organization.
Reflect on this: Don't let your failures hinder you to achieve greatness. But
don't let your desire for greatness destroy your goodness. Remember, it's far better
to be good than to be great. rholquotes
