    The ancient temples of Bel and Baalshamin in Palmyra, Syria were destroyed by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. ISIL demolished the two temples dating back thousands of years in the historic city of Palmyra. The destruction of these important archaeological and cultural sites was carried out by ISIL in 2015.
