Toris Service Trip in Costa Rica

For my edge project I volunteered in the Costa Rican
orphanages as an alternative spring break with a
group of students from SUU. While I was there I
worked with children in a non-profit daycare for
children of single mothers and orphans. I was there
to give them the attention that they needed. I went to
the daycare in the early morning and did whatever
the supervisor asked me to do such as: play games
with the kids, help them with their English, and
teach them what I can. While on this service trip, I
learned about the culture of Costa Rica and I spoke
with as many people as I could to get the best
experience possible.
One of the girls favorite activities was to play
beauty salon.

I headed back to where I was staying by late

afternoon, and this schedule was set for the whole
week. We arrived March 8th, and departed March
14th. I want to be an occupational therapist and I
think that this project has taught me a lot about
culture and people in general that I can use later. I
met a lot of different age groups, cultures, and
people who need help. I think that by completing
this project, I have become better equipped to help
those people in the way they need it and I better
know how to ask people what those needs are.
Pura Vida!
