TriplaneWhy was it made?

This was a commercial plane that became a military plane during


the disputes of the Wright Brothers and Curliess on aircraft patents.
BiplaneWhat is it? A plane with two fixed wings usually 1 above the aircraft and one below
the fuselage.
Why was it made? The U.S. Army scrabbled for fighters to be readily made to
compete in the Great War alongside the Allies powers. Also to provide
reconnaissance.
Who was a part of this innovation? Wright Brothers (Wright Model B), Curtiss
(F6C Hawk fighter), Boeing (MB-3A)
Why was it removed? The U.S. during WWI realized the lack of innovation in
aircraft design had become dominated by Europe.
MonoplaneWhat is it? A plane with 1 fixed wing
Why was it made? Monoplanes were first used in U.S. commercial market and due
to the new designs and innovations, along with Americas period of aircraft
stagnation and the failure of our biplanes during WWI, the U.S. military invested in
the development of military ready monoplanes. Most importantly the Waters Act of
1930, caused the commercial industry to develop faster, larger, and more costeffective transport (34-35)
