The planning new pipelines /network of distribution division is based on experience

basis not on calculations because with the passage of time distribution network has
become so complex and interlinked that it cannot be planned on simple
calculations. Therefore we are unable to find out the optimum size of the proposed
new pipeline or network which results in proposing under or oversize pipelines
causing bottlenecks or
. Due to interlink ages we even cannot predict the
direction of flow and pressure at any point on the network. Simulation software is
the solution of above problems.
Now as we are entering into NGEP projects where segmentation is the basic
requirement, the need of Simulation software become more vital. In order to isolate
any area from the network we actually cut-off the supply of gas in the particular
area from rest of the area which is done by installing two stopple fittings and a
valve at all connected pipelines (which is quiet expensive and time consuming job).
It happened many times when we close the isolation valve the area becomes low
pressure, all the said efforts becomes wasted because this activity is based on
experience not on calculations. If we would have Simulation software we can predict
the effect of any activity on the area of consideration without actually carrying out
the activity.
Therefore implementation of Simulation software not only helps us in segmentation
of areas but also provide us the optimum size of new pipeline/network for
Rehabilitation or extensions.
If the software is interfaced with all the sources (SMS/TBS) it would we would be
able to find out bottlenecks of the network and we would be able to find out the
direction of flow and pressures at any point on the network.
