Basic 4 Questions
1. Best Part
- I can say that the best part is the last part. It was so dramatic with
the weeds and all. One can really imagine the demise and fall of Dimas
from a wealthy hacienda in Bacolod to a forgotten place of bitterness.
As always theres a small happy scene at the end of the play so that
the audience wont leave the place filled with loneliness. Also, any part
with the old man acting as George Torrecarion is a great scene.
2. Least Part
- There are certain dull moments in the play that can somehow be
omitted. Certain montages like the first one doesnt seem to be that
important. The again, it introduced all the characters. Ok, I take it
back. I like every scene and I think that the play is flawless at the
university level.
3. Incite
- Plays are meant to arouse emotion more than films do. It takes you to
a more intimate level because the actors are live and they sometimes
break the fourth wall by acknowledging that they are being watched. I
can say that there are certain moments in the play that some
characters, especially Don George, acknowledged the presence of an
audience. One thing I can remember was during the second half of the
play where he wore some sort of a Zorro outfit and said, Ang galling
ko no? to the audience. All in all the play was an emotional
playground
4. Recommendations
- What else could I recommend? Harlequin theatre guild has raised the
bar once more. It was a smart move to hire older actors for the older
roles even if they arent students anymore. The use of the stage was
also maximized. As a layman, I have nothing else to recommend.
