Irritability associated
with autistic disorder in
children and
adolescents (5-6 years
of age)including
symptoms and
aggression towards
others deliberate selfinjuries, temper
tantrums and quickly
changing moods.

MOST COMMON:
Agitation,Anxiety,Extrapyr
amidal symptoms,
headache,insomnia,
constipation, dyspepsia,
weight gain, rhinitis

1. Drug may cause


drowsiness and impair
judgement, motor skills
and thinking and cause
blurred vision.
Determine drug effects
before engaging in
activities that requires
mental alertness.
2. Report abnormal
bruising/bleeding,yello
w skin discoloration or
adverse effects.
3. Report any suicide
ideations or bizzare
behaviour immediately.
Due to the possibility of
suicideattempts with
schizophrenia, close
supervision is
necessary and
prescriptions may be
written for the smallest
quantity of tablets.

SIDE EFFECTS

MOST COMMON:
Asthasia,
Drowsinnes/Sedation,
Extrapyramidal
symptoms, headache,
insomnia, rashes,
diarrhea, diverticulitis,
dry mouth, dyspepsia,
nausea, weight gain,
increased cough, rhinitis.

NURSING RESPONSIBILITY

1. Note disease onset


symptom characteristics,
presenting behaviors, other
agents trialed.
2. Note history of CAD,
abnormal QT intervals,
arrhythmias, CVA,
Alzheimers disease or
seizures.
3. List drugs currently
prescribed to ensure none
interact unfavourably.
4. DO not mix the
reconstituted drug with any
other drugs solvents other
that sterile water for
injection.
