BENEFITS OF DRESSING PROFESSIONALLY

The way you dress carries certain messages to those who meet you.
--- Neil Kokemuller ---

You never get a second chance to make a first impression. This familiar statement
proves that everyone needs to realize the importance of dressing professionally.
(www.ehow.com) Although dressing professionally is important, it is also important to
dress relative to your coworkers. What is acceptable at one company could be looked
down upon another. (www.sixsigmaonline.org)

Dressing professionally...
1. Forms first impressions and overall judgments about people by the way they dress
(Neil Kokemuller, 2007)
The way someone dresses affects the perception of your company's customers or
business partners thats why it is important to maintain a standard of dress that
creates a positive impression. (Neil Kokemuller, 2007)

2. Exhibits traits and behaviors up to a certain standard of excellence for someone in

his/her position (Neil Kokemuller, 2007)
The way you look says a lot about you. Dressing professionally can make you feel
better about yourself. (www.ehow.com)
When you dress up in a suit, you tend to stand straighter and project more
confidence, which people will respond to positively. (www.ehow.com)
When wearing perceived high-status clothing, people gained cooperation from
others more easily, scored job recommendations and higher salary, and received
higher contributions for charity. (http://quickbase.intuit.com)

3. A way of expressing respect for the situation and the people in it

Clothing has an effect on both the wearer and the observer (www.forbes.com)

4. You never know when you will be required to have a meeting with someone from
outside the company
The way in which you present yourself will be the image that this outsider has of
your company. Anytime you have a meeting with someone who is not from your
company, you have to realize that you are representing the company.

5.

Dress for success

It's probably one of the

most overused phrases in job

hunting, but also one of the most
underutilized by job seekers
In job hunting, first
impressions

are

critical.

Remember, you are marketing a

product --

yourself

-- to a

potential employer, and the first

thing the employer sees when
greeting you is your attire;
Thus, you must make every effort to have the proper dress for the type of job you
are seeking. (www.quintcareers.com)
