The AER ‘addresses the complex reporting information required by federal and state laws. District Learning Center is committed to creating and supporting effective educational programs which Promote learning for all students through cooperative involvements of students, families, educators, outside agencies, and community stakeholders. The Learning Center holds high expectations for all students, identifies essential curricular content, makes certain it is sequenced appropriately and is taught effectively inthe avaiable instructional times, ‘Assessments used are aligned to curricular content and are used to guide instructional decisions and monitor student learning. In addition to comprehensive curricular offerings, students experience educational community based instruction. The Unique Learning System has been developed based upon current research-based information that promotes access to standards-based learning and literacy instruction and ate designed to support students with even the most challenging dsabilties, Tools are used to chart the best ‘method for presenting objects or pictures, identifying the best method for respondingimaking a selection, including smile, head movement, eye gaze, vocalization, Pointing, reaching, or touching. Assessment data can document the appropriate wait time for each student and if the mode of communication is emergent, consistent, or reliable, Implementation ofthis curiculum has proven that integration of students from ‘our Severely Coghitively Impaired classrooms into less restrictive environments with ‘same aged peers in our Moderately Cognitvely Impaired classrooms has been ‘successful. Benafts of this structure alow for peer modeling for non-verbal students {and smaller cass sizes. This also promotes consistency from classroom to classroom a8 students advance from primary through transition level classrooms. Student profiles can be shared amongst teachers for consistent and relevant programming within our school as well as students transfering to our school from other states that also incorporate Unique Leaming Systems curriculum. The Brigance Diagnostic Inventory I is the assessment tool used within our ECSE classrooms (ages 3-6), Developmental Record Books and Standardized Assessment Record Books compliment the ‘assessment instrument. Access to technology has greatly enhanced teaching and learning through the use of SMART boards, IPads, and assistive technology. Future {goals forimprovernent include keeping class sizes smal, providing relevant professional development for staff, and remaining an excelent choice for students and parents. Where are we naw? The dynamic standards based content (aligned to Michigan's Core Curriculum Benchmarks) is available online for immediate download and use in the classroom. Teachers have access to a customized web-based assessment and progress: ‘monitoring tool. This tool provides teachers with the abiliy to create learning profi for all ‘students in the classroom and track their progress throughout the year (2013-2014 school year ‘second year practice). Leaming Center families wil have access to this curriculum through ‘monthly parent letters and standardized tracking assessment data which will be shared at all ‘annual individual student educational meetings via iPads, Smart Boards, or copied into pint. LLeaming Center ECSE students willbe assessed using the Brigance Assessment Tool ‘+ Where do we want to be?
