What is Young Women In Finance?

Vision
Young Women In Finance (YWIF) seeks to develop the female holistically,
developing her spirit, mainly through supporting her and her ventures, while
empowering her to empower others.
The project strives to open avenues where women are free to unleash their
ideas and dreams and are specifically equipped with business ‘know- how’ in
their specific fields of interest.

Goal

“To develop a support network for the emerging successful women in our
society, who have a holistic view of themselves and their role in the
development of society.”

History

Young Women in Finance was established in 2005 by two UCT Investment

Society students, who wanted to bridge the gap between student life and the
working environment for female graduates.

Traditionally YWIF has been a 3-day conference aimed at exposing 60, talented
young women from tertiary institutions across South Africa to successful leaders
in various industries. Through YWIF activities over the last few years, YWIF has
developed a strong and widely recognised brand.

The conference highlighted the challenges and opportunities facing women in

the financial sector and addressed the empowerment of women at a student
level. The delegates were exposed to the strides that need to be made in the
advancement of both the entrepreneurial and business world, specifically with
regard to tackling glass ceiling issues.

The Way Forward

A sustainable means of empowering young women is what YWIF is ultimately

about.

YWIF has moved away from its main focus being that of a summit, to
programme which motivates and inspires continuously throughout the year. It
is in this light that YWIF focus for the year ahead is to establish a strong
mentorship Programme while hosting different events throughout the year
which give the students opportunity to grow, explore and be exposed.

YWIF continues to search, discover and bring to life ideas and concepts which
grow and change lives significantly.
