The University of Bedfordshire, Faculty of Health and Social Sciences offers:

Influenza Vaccination

A One Day Study Workshop for Registered Nurses Working


in Nursing Homes; 12 June 2015, 09.30-16.30
Aim:
This study day will enhance your understanding regarding the rationale for the
Influenza vaccination. Your knowledge and skills will be refreshed by reviewing
effective administration of the vaccine through theoretical and practical learning. It is
intended that practitioners will be fully updated and confident in their abilities as
vaccinators. It is essential that all attendees have received their yearly mandatory
CPR and Anaphylaxis training from their employing organisations.
Topics covered include:
A review of the national programme and what is new
The facts and figures rationale for influenza vaccination
Risk factors - those who are vulnerable to the effects of influenza
The vaccine components, types, contraindications, inclusion & exclusion
Correct administration of the vaccine
Recognising anaphylaxis and how
to manage it
Legal aspects of vaccination
Storage and handling of vaccines
Documentation, record keeping and
reporting
Supporting the uptake of
vaccination
The one day workshop will be held on:

Bedfordshire and Luton CCGs will only support influenza training via the contract for Practice Nurses.
HCAs who have previously completed basic immunisation & vaccination training will have to pay to attend this
workshop via their own training budgets.
