Objective:
The course is intended to give a thorough understanding of the basic mechanical
engineering concepts.
Course Outline:
Fundamental concepts and principles of mechanics, fundamental units, moments
and couples, laws of equilibrium, free body diagrams; structures, frames and
machines.
Fundamentals of dynamics: Applications of Newton's second law of motion,
analysis of motion in two dimensional and three dimensional spaces, methods of
energy and momentum, applications of dynamics to the engineering concepts,
pulleys, chains, design of flywheel, bearings, mechanical power transmission,
heat transfer.
