on the riverThames. There are 27 bridges over the river; the most famous is the
Tower Bridge. In the 19th century London was the biggest city of the world, but
now there are many cities which are much bigger.Londonis famous for many things. T
ourists come from all over the world to visit its historic buildings.
The Tower of Londonhas dominated the city ofLondon for over 900 years and today is
still one of the capital s most visited point and a world famous visitor attracti

n (kivgzs) and now you can find there the crown jewels.
The London Eye was opened on New Year s Eve in 1999. It is 135 meters high and fr

Buckingham Palace is the place where the queen lives. It is a symbol and home of
the British monarchy, an art gallery and tourist attraction. Its magnificent ro

visitors for a limited period each year. Every morning, at half past eleven, you
can see the changing of the guard in front of the palace.
Next to the famous clock, Big Ben you can find the Houses of Parliament.
There are a lot of famous museums for example The British museum, The National G

The shopping in London is surely among the best in the world with something to s
uit every budget and style. Oxford Street is the obvious place to go if you want
to visit every high street shop in one day. In the streets you can find the cha
racteristic red phone boxes.
Like many big cities, London has problems with traffic and pollution. This was t
he first city in the world which had an underground railway, called Tube. Over 1
million people a day use the underground, but there are still too many cars on
the roads. The air isn t clean, but cleaner than it was 100 years ago.
