KONSTANTIN KOSTA GLAVINI
A Contribution from the Historical Archives of Belgrade
The Glavini family of Belgrade originally came from Mostar. The earliest information about the Galvinis of Belgrade goes back to the mid-18th century. The Glavini Fonds is a cultural asset of outstanding significance.
Konstantin Kosta Glavini (Belgrade 1858 Belgrade 1939) was a civil engineer, professor at Belgrades Great School
and University, a councillor and mayor of Belgrade. Under his tenure as mayor, construction of Belgrades water supply
system was completed and plans for the citys sewage system prepared. He served as Serbias minister of economy and the
government commissioner to the central bank of Yugoslavia. He took part in the wars of 187678, 1885 and 1912.
He was the recipient of several honours: the Commemorative Medal for the 187678 Wars, the Order of St Sava, the
Order of the Takovo Cross, the Order of Karageorges Star, the Charity Cross, and the Order of the White Eagle.
He was a founder, board member or member of many societies and associations.
He left behind manuscripts, notes and memories of his work, as well as drawings and blueprints.
He and his wife Darinka had five children.
A street in Belgrade is named after him.
In 1937, Kosta Glavini had an exhibition presenting 74 drawings, paintings and projects created at Belgrades School
of Engineering and the Technical University in Charlottenburg, Berlin, between 1874 and 1884, and a few more of a later
date. The exhibition was mounted in the Little Hall of the seat of the Association of Engineers in Belgrade. At the opening,
Glavini gave an interesting lecture on the training of engineers in Belgrade and Berlin during the same period.
