To: Lisa Carlson Subject: Tech Observation Lisa, Thanks for inviting me in for your Kahoot! Review . I really enjoyed seeing the high school students. I do miss them. Below is a summary of what I observed as well as a few comments. As Mrs. Carlson logged into her KaHoot account, students were asked to go to the Kahoot website. There were a few minutes where there was trouble with the internet fro m Mrs. Carlson s computer. Once she regained access, students were able to enter the cod e for her review activity. Two students had a hard time loading the activity. One studen t needed to use their cell phone to participate. Eventually all students were able to log in to participate in the review activity. The review focused on typography. There were 23 questions in the first review activity. Students selected an answer. Results of the choices were projected f or the class to see. The correct answer was also projected. Mrs. Carlson would remind students about specific concepts when incorrect answers were submitted. Students were engaged in the ac tivity and enjoyed the competitive nature of the scoring system. There was time left at th e completion of the first review so Mrs. Carlson started a second review Kahoot. I like that there are student response systems that teachers can use for immedia te assessment data. It provides students with immediate feedback on how well they know the content. However, as I see Kahoot being used with classes, I also see the tende ncy for students to get caught up in the fun and overlook the educational value. I assume this was the first time your students used this website. The questions you designed were great and seemed to target important content. I assume that you used this to prepare for semester t ests. Providing students with clarification when they answered incorrectly is a great way to rea lly design the review around areas of highest need. I didn t realize that you could include imag es as part of the question. I liked that about the site. After using it, what are some things you liked about it? What are some things y ou didn t like? I enjoyed the lesson and even learned a thing or two about typography. Thanks a gain. Have a great holiday break!! Michelle DeHart Principal West Hancock Elementary District Technology Integrationist
