A mass society.
The first decade of the the century, called the Belle Epoque, marked the culmination of
Victorianism. The technological and industrial development brought people to belive in an
apparently prosperous and stable world. In effect this was the period of revolution in sundry aspect
of ordinary life. In this period we have the advent of mass communication and mass entertraiment,
the improvement of sanitary and housing condition and the multiplication of entertraiment, with
men and women that read newspapers than ever before. But this apparently world was destineted to
be shattered by the Firs World War that induce people in a sort of feeling of melancholy versus the
period of prosperity before outbreak of the War. So this period was called Belle Epoque in
according with the former times of welfare.
Modernism
This term is use with a porpous to denominate revolutionary movement based on a reaction against
the art of the immediate past. This movement, such as Dada, Cubism, surrealism, futurism,
imagism, symbolism, emerged at the end of the first decade of the 19th century, in a climate of deep
changing and intellectual questioning.
