Job Description.

When you think of a fashion designer, you might picture a world of


fabulous dresses and suits, gorgeous handbags, and elegant fashion
shows. But fashion design isnt all glamour and creativity.

Fashion designers should have technical knowledge. They produce


detailed drawings of their ideas and make precise calculations to
determine the amount of material needed to create their designs.

Working conditions.

Fashion designers work for a variety of employers, including clothing manufacturers,


retailers, and design houses. A fashion designer can work in their own companies or
other peoples companies.

These designers might be responsible for supervising other staff, including pattern
cutters, pattern makers, and sewers.

Fashion designers typically work 9 to 10 hours a day. Weekend work is common,


especially when seasonal deadlines are approaching.

The fashion world can be stressful, with designers working under strict deadlines and
against stiff competition. Those who are just starting out may have to work extra hard to
make a name for themselves.

Earnings.

The fashion designers salaries are lower if you work for a small company.

Most people in this profession earn between $34,000 and $126,000 a year.
The national median income for fashion designers is around $63,000 a year.

Designers at the top of their profession can earn well over $200,000 a year.
