Further- more, the CF transmitter of 20 kHz is a component of the 2- channel FMUX system. The taining panel contains the following modules: 1. dngat fiter The input filer sets the upper cut-off frequency of the modula ting signal to feo = 3.4 kHz, Gainin the passband: +1 2. Modulator M2 ‘A multiplier IC is employed as product detector. On the one hand, in experiments with harmonic carriers this suppresses the formation of interference sidebands, on the other hand the product detector also allows us to investigate the response of switching modulators. The modulator possesses 2 treely acces- sible inputs: + |nput for the modulating signal, also called AF input ‘input for the cartier oscillation (RF input), possible carriers: sine or square-wave, unmadulated carrier 4 Vpp, In addition a toggle switch can be used to switch on or off the carrer in the output signal of the modulator. (CARRIER, ON: OFF) 3. Channel fter CH2 ‘The channel filler is needed to genorate the SSB-AM. It sup- presses the lower sideband. The passband of approx. 20 kH2...20 kHz exceeds the upper sideband Gain in the passband: +1 Product Information 736 201 CF Transmitter 20 kHz Both filers (® and @) have treely accessible inputs and outputs; this permits the recording of the amplitude frequency responses. 4. Output summing unit ‘The output summing unit @ has 2 inputs with the gain factors of +1. Tho module is used for the linear superposition of AM signal components. The complete AM signal is available at the output of the summing unit, possibly including a pilot tone or, in the case of FMUX operation, the multiplex signal for transmit. ting via the transmission channel ‘Module "carrier generation" (CARRIER) “The carter frequency of 20 kHz is produced oul ofthe pilot one through frequency division fof8 ©. In the TTUsquare-wave converter © the unipolar TTL-Signal is converted into a bipolar square-wave carier signal with 4 Vpp. Conversion into a bipolar sinusoidal oscilation also with 4 Vpg is cartied out inside the square-wave/sine converter @). The adjustable phase-shifier © 6 = 0.150" allows for a defined phase-shit to be carried ‘out between the carrer en the modulator side (M2) and the auxiliary caries on the demodulator side (02 in the correspon ding OF receiver 20 kHz, 736 221), The phase-shifter makes it possible to investigate the characteristics of coherent demodu: lation, Furthermore, in conjunction with the OF transmitter 416 kHz (796 211}, its used for generating quadrature modula tion Module "pilot tone generator” (PILOT TONE) The quartz oscilator © generates the primary master clock, a TTL with a frequency of 160 KHz. Based on the TTL signal of the quartz oscillator the converter @ and the downstream atte- ‘nuator @) form an attenuated unipolar square-wave signal of ‘pPrOX. 200 mop, which is transmitted to the CF receiver to recover the carrier signal Bridging plug connections “The folowing bridging plugs are needed in normal operation Feeding the modulating signal: Output ofthe input fiter @ with the input of the modulators Depending on the desired cartor (square-waversine): Outout of © of © with cartier ingut of ©.
