Memo

To: Roger Munger, Professor and Associate Chair of English Department

From: Colette Fellom
Subject: Proposal to Study Career Preparedness of Technical
Communications Graduates
Date: September 20, 2015

Summary
This memo is a request for funding to do research into whether current
curriculum at Boise State University is preparing graduates for a career in
the Technical Communication field.
After reading several articles and comparing the current course catalog with
what employers are looking for on employment websites, there are some
definite lapses. There are many desired software and business skills that are
lacking in todays graduates. Many graduates are not comfortable with their
level of knowledge when it comes time to find employment. Employers are
also not satisfied with new graduates level of knowledge.
I would first analyze and research the current curriculum against what
employers are desiring in new recruits. I would further compare these two
lists to see where there may be holes. My next step would be to identify the
best way to modify the curriculum to incorporate desired skills. After all my
research is done, I will prepare a final summary report to present my findings
and recommendations.
I estimate this will take two weeks per each of the first three tasks and one
week to prepare the written summary. Due to my qualifications as a skilled
and experienced researcher and interviewer, I have budgeted my time at
$20.00 per hour with an approximate 14 hours to complete, for a total
finding of $280.00.
