Software Development chapter 2 Questions

1. The number of bits required to represent the number 1000 is 10 - which technically gives
1024 as the maximum (2 to the power of 10).
2. Moore's prediction was that the number of transistors that could be placed on a CPU would
double every two years. This has generally held true so far.
3. Clock speed, instructions executed in a period of time.
4. Screen size is a measure of how big a screen is. Resolution is a measure of how many
pixels are contained on a screen.
5. SSDs have no moving parts and are much quicker than HDDs Which has a spinning
optical disk/s that in some hdds spins at 7200 rpm. This means that SSDs are a lot more
safer then HDDs Due to the fact that they easily lose data in case of a drop.
6. PDAs are only used as personal organisers and (generally) have no phone capability
meaning you cant make phone calls.
7. Screen size and storage. Screen size will have a significant impact as the text will be much
harder to read then for example on a desktop monitor. The amount of storage on a mobile
device is limited to that of a laptop which tends to have a much larger hdd.
8. Network Interface Card, they are used to connect a computer (desktop or Laptop) to a
network.
9. A switch will know the exact port to send the packets of data, A hub will the incoming
packets of data to every port, If the recipient sends a packet at the same time as the packet is
being sent to it, a collision will occur.
10. The amount of data that can travel on a particular network at the same time.
11. This is because media data is transmitted over a network one bit at a time.
12. A protocol is an agreed set of rules for communication.
13. The physical layer is only concerned with physical connection and not data transfer.
14. TCP stands for Transport Control Protocol. It divides data up into packets for transmitting
over a network from sender to receiver. IP stands for Internet Protocol. It defines how packets
are sent between network nodes.
15. A VPN is a lot more secure
