Boil/Simmer the one liter water using an electric/biomass stove.
Record the water initial volume, temperature, density, and state/phase. Switch on the electric stove at maximum settings. (1500 watts plate, 750 watts plate). Get the temperature of the heating plate. Take note also of the time and the time elapsed of every activity and your observations (i.e. switching on/off of the stove, etc.) Record the temperature of the water every 10 seconds interval until the activity is done (i.e. the temperature of the water goes back to its original state). Plot the temperature of the water versus time for the whole activity. Measure the final volume of the water. Compute the amount water evaporated. Compute the sensible heating/cooling using the equation, Q s = mCT Qs=sensible heat, m=mass of water, C=specific heat, C p =4.19 kJ/kg.K liquid water, T= change in temperature Compute for the latent heat of vaporization using the equation Q Lv = mLv, where m=mass of water evaporated, Lv = latent heat of vaporization is 2256.5 kJ/kg. Compute the total heat absorbed by the water as Q total = Qs + QLv

Label the energy flow/energy transformations considering the heat source from the electric stove as the primary energy source. Compute the energy total from the source, the amount of energy absorbed by the water and the energy dissipated to the environment. Make some generalizations from your observations.
