The Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization is looking for a bright and

motivated individual to fill a full-time, permanent GIS Programmer/Analyst position.


The position plays a critical role in managing the MPOs geospatial data and
overseeing spatial analysis in support of regional transportation planning activities.
This position will act as lead staff on a variety of geospatial initiatives and assists
with travel forecasting activities, socio-economic data development and forecasting,
traffic and transit analysis, sub-area analysis, and project prioritization activities.
This position may develop custom applications and scripting of GIS software using
available tools and creates custom map templates and user documentation/training
material for use by co-workers with limited GIS proficiency. A successful applicant
will also be able to design spatial database schemas, coordinate the creation,
collection, and maintenance of GIS data, direct GIS data management within the
MPO, and facilitate the arrangement of data sharing agreements and protocols
between local, regional, and state governments and the MPO.
This position creates production quality maps and graphics for publications and
public involvement activities; Coordinates analysis of transportation alternatives for
environmental assessment utilizing most current spatial data. Actively participates
in MPO project activities as needed. Additionally, this position coordinates work
with that of other MPO staff, public agencies and member governments and will
coordinate information gathering and development of formal presentations to
general public, member governments and other elected bodies.
Minimum Requirements:
Two years of relevant geospatial experience. Bachelor's Degree in geography,
planning, computer science, information systems, or a closely related field.
Knowledge of MPO planning processes, involvement in air quality planning and the
transportation conformity processes, and experience with ESRI products, VB,
Python, XML, HTML, and Python programming languages as well as TransCAD
computer modeling, Micro-station, GEOPAK, MOBILE 6, MOVES and VISSIM.
GISP preferred. A Valid NC Class "C" Driver's License is required.
