Math 6
Ms. Kirk

We will be using the Houghton Mifflin


Harcourt Texas Go Math textbook. Students
should receive their textbook during the first
week of school. There is an online version of
the textbook that can be accessed through
the link on Edmodo. There are many
additional resources available in the online
version of the textbook.

Late Work Policy


Points will be deducted as follows:
1 Day Late 10 points
2 Days Late 20 points
3 Days Late 30 points
4 or more Days Late
student will receive a 0.
As a rule of thumb, I do not accept incomplete
work and it will be returned to the student for
completion.

Homework Policy
Homework will be posted in class and on Edmodo.
Homework is your opportunity to practice. Just like the
best athletes have to practice, so do the best
mathematicians!

Homework will be given daily.

Your homework will be graded weekly as part


of your MATH IAN.

Extra Help
If you are having trouble, you should speak
with Ms. Kirk as soon as possible. Ms. Kirk will work with you to
schedule time for extra help. Extra help is available before
school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:45 am -8:15am. We
will begin promptly at 7:45 am. Please arrive on-time so that we
can make the most of our time. I will pick you up at the bus ramp
doors at 7:45 am.

Course Outline

Semester 1
Unit 1 exponents, order of operations, comparing
and ordering rational numbers.
Unit 2 integer operations (add, subtract, multiply &
divide)
Unit 3 fraction and decimal operations (add, subtract,
multiply & divide)
Unit 4 proportions including ratios, rates, and unit rates
Unit 5 percent applications using the percent
proportion.
Semester 2
Unit 6 multiple representations of linear
relationships (equation, graph, verbal, table)
Unit 7 expressions, equations, and inequalities (writing
and solving)
Unit 8 measurement properties of triangles, area of
parallelograms, triangles, and trapezoids, volume of
rectangular prisms
Unit 9 data and statistics including relative frequency,
percent bar graphs, histograms, stem
and leaf plots, dot plots, box plots, 5 number
summary
Unit 10 personal financial literacy

Students will take a comprehensive exam at the end of


each semester.
Tests & Grades
There will be at least 3 tests each nine week grading
period. In addition to the test grades, there will also be at
least 11 daily grades taken each grading period.
Math IAN & Planners
We will utilize a Math Interactive Notebook (IAN) and
school provided planner for class. The Math IAN will be
utilized for notes, assignments, homework, and daily
warm-up. Planners will be utilized daily for homework and
communication as needed. Please check and review
Math IAN and Planners daily.
