Tel Aviv is Israel's capital, and is the second largest city in Israel with a

population of 405,500 inhabitants being the most populous metropolitan


area of Gush Dan City (Gush , so named because this area was territory
tribe of Dan, one of the twelve tribes of the ancient kingdom of Israel.
Tel Aviv was founded in 1909. It is rapidly overtaking city grew in

population Jaffa, both eventually merged into a single municipality in


1950 two years after the creation of the State of Israel.

Israel has the highest number of museums per capita of
any country, with three of the largest located in Tel Aviv.

ARCHITECTURE
Bauhaus architecture was introduced in the 1920s and 1930s by

German Jewish architects who settled in Palestine after the rise of


the Nazis. Tel Aviv'sWhite City, around the city center, contains
more than 5,000Modernist-style buildings inspired by
theBauhaus schoolandLe Corbusier.Construction of these
buildings, later declared protected landmarks and, collectively,
aUNESCOWorld Heritage Site, continued until the 1950s in the
area aroundRothschild Boulevard.Some 3,000 buildings were
created in this style between 1931 and 1939 alone. In the 1960s,
this architectural style gave way to office towers and a chain of
waterfront hotels and commercial skyscrapers.Some of the city's
Modernist buildings were neglected to the point of ruin. Before
legislation to preserve this landmark architecture, many of the old
buildings were demolished. Efforts are under way to refurbish
Bauhaus buildings and restore them to their original condition.

BEACHES
Tel Aviv has 14 kilometers of beach and is one of the most beautiful

beaches in the world.

RELIGION
Shabbat or Sabbath is the seventh day of the week, which at the time the holiest day of

the Jewish week. The Sabbath is observed from sundown Friday until the appearance of
three stars on Saturday night.

Tipic food
FALAFEL: Considered almost a national dish in Israel (enough to be offered on the menu
of the Jewish restaurants) and very popular in the Middle East, the falafel are today
recognized and appreciated worldwide due to delicacy that characterizes a delight
because of the ingredients that compose them: very aromatic and spicy fried meatballs,
made with beans or chickpeas with chopped leek or onion, garlic, cumin and coriander,
the falafels are a real treat for the palate precisely because of the significant presence of
food components that help give the falafel intense and irresistible flavor.
