Letter of Recommendation for Ms Pascale Thomas
‘This letter for Pascale follows a previous one from me dated November 24, 2008. At this time Pascale
‘was an elementary counselor. Pascale has since transitioned into a highly competent
‘counselor. She is now in her second year in that position. In this relatively new role she has already
gained the respect of her students, their parents and her colleagues. They readily (and often) seek her
assistance for a range of issues. They know she cares deeply about young people and that she will
listen to them in a thoughtful manner and advocate for them in a way that provides real solutions. 1
will not refer much to issues that pertain to Pascale’s character or her commitment to children and
adolescents, She is still tae hard working, collaborative, consummate professional described in 2008.
One reference that I will make though is that Pascale has grown in professional stature since 2008,
Pascale prepared for the move to high school for a full year before taking up the position. The
Counselor she was to replace provided extensive mentoring in the range of skills and best practices
required of a high school counselor; particularly in the area of college guidance.
‘Subsequent professional conversations show me that Pascale’s growing confidence and competence in
college guidance applies to the USA, Canada, UK, EU, Australia, HK, Japan, Taiwan, Korea,
Singapore, Malaysia, etc. She is herself a Third Culture Kid which makes her aware, more than most,
of the international nature of her profession.
Another significant area of professional growth for Pascale is her ability to present to large groups of
people. A couple of years back such presentations were a bit anxiety provoking for her.
Last schoo! year Pascale presented a suicide prevention program to the whole high school faculty. She
was terrific. Her style was confident and relaxed and the content extremely valuable. Pascale, with
great poise, talked about depression and how to identify teenagers who may be depressed, how to
train teenagers to recognize self harm signs in their friends, and more. The presentation drew a great
deal of positive comment from our high school teachers. This group can often be a tough crowd.
Instead they were highly engaged and respectful.
More recently Pascale presented a workshop in peer support at our Bangkok Counselors Group
meeting, The group meets three times a year. The group includes school counselors and school
psychologists from other international schools in Thailand, private practitioners in child protection,
psychiatry, family counseling, etc. There were over 80 participants. The workshop required
Participants to actively join in team building exercises planned for teenagers, They did and they
loved
Pascale, with great skill, and a lot of hard work, has fashioned herself into a highly trained
Kindergarten through Grade 12 school counselor. ‘This is a rare creature. Many have the certification
but few have significant experience in working effectively with all grade levels.
| will steal just one line from my previous letter and that is;
“If you are lucky enough to find Pascale applying for a position at your schoo! I think you should just
ask her when she can start”,
This is even more the case now.
