Primarily looked over the hearth and
the sacrificial flame
Also: architecture, domesticity, the
family, and the state

Origin Story
Daughter of Cronus (Kronos) and
Rhea
Was first to be swallowed and last to
be spit up
Thus, known as the eldest and the
youngest

Attributes
Rarely seen or portrayed
Wore plain clothes and rarely left
home
Took care of Mount Olympus
The Hearth and its fire is her most
recognizable object
Direct predecessor of the Olympic torch

Cities and Sanctuaries


Did not become patron of a city
Instead, every city has a sanctuary to
protect those in need
Open roof, hearth with a flame in every
one

Story
Hestia was known as a
compassionate, reliable, forgiving,
and kind Goddess. She never left
home, instead opting to stay and
tend the household. She was so nonconfrontational that, in order to
preserve the peace on Olympus, she
gave up her position as one of the 12
major Gods to Dionysus.
