withbysomekindofaction.Inthispartofthestory,themaincharacterisincrisis.Thisistheplace
fortensionandexcitement.Thecomplicationcanarisethroughacharacter'sconflictwithsociety,
nature,fate,oranumberofthemes.Inthispartofthestorythemaincharacterisawareaconflict
hasarisenandtakessomekindofsteptobattlethiscrisis.
3.Climax:TheHighPoint
Theclimaxisthehighpointofthestory.Itisthemaineventordangerthatthecharacterfaces.
Thisisthedarkestmoment,theworstchallengethecharactermustoppose.Atthispointitlooksas
ifthecharacterwillfail,andwillnevergetwhathe/shewants.Theturningpointmaybeeither
physicaloremotional.Inaromance,thegirlmayturnthehopefulloverdown,inanactionstory,
thecharactermaybesurroundedbyenemieswithnochanceofescape.
4.FallingAction:WindingDown
Followingtheclimax,thestorybeginstoslowlywinddown.Fallingaction,oneofthetwofinalstory
elements,showstheresultoftheactionsordecisionsthecharacterhasmade.Thiseventuallyleads
tothefinalpartofthenovel,thecrisisresolution.
5.Resolution:TheEnd
Theresolution,alsooftencalleddenouement,whichisFrenchfor"tountie"or"unraveling",isthe
conclusionofthestory.Here,theconflictsareresolved,alllooseendsaretiedup,andthestory
concludeswitheitherahappyorsadending.
