SUBJECT: Environmental Issues
My research topic is environmental issues and the organization that is in charge of these issues is
the Natural Resources Defense Council also known as NRDC. NRDC is the nation's most
effective environmental action group, it contains more than 2 million members and online
activists with the expertise of nearly 500 lawyers, scientists and other professionals. This
organization is one of the most powerful environmental groups in the nation and their main goal
is to fix some of the biggest issues that we face today.
Functions of the Organization
These are the main functions that the NRDC agency has within my discourse community:

Fostering sustainable communities

Ensuring safe and sufficient water
Reviving the worlds oceans
Curbing global warming and creating a clean energy future
Protecting our health by preventing pollution
Defending endangered wildlife and wild places

How it Impacts our Community

The NRDC agency is a council in charge of many smaller organizations that specify in certain
issues of the environment. Their dedicated staff of business people, elected leaders, and
community groups impact and help the community and society by defending our planet. They
fight for the planet and for its people in the halls of Congress, communities across the country,
and nations around the globe. This helps the community by creating a cleaner and fresher
environment to live in not only for people, but for animals and plants as well. It impacts our life
because it preserves nature as our cities get more industrialized and continue to grow in the
future.
Organizations Practices
NRDC is involved in practices of law and defending our wildlife and wild places. NRDC defend
clean air and clean water by creating laws against big polluters. They protect the pure waters and
mountains and all the people, plants, and animals that rely on them.

What They Stand For

NRDC is in favor of maintaining and caring for nature and our planet. This organization is
against polluters and corporate greed. They help fight for natures rights and protect precious
resources and wildlife from anybody who tries to harm it.
Communication Practices
This organization uses many communication practices such as writing, media, technology,
speaking, and visual means. They use as many practices possible to let the word out and make
themselves known to the world as the ones who protect our planet. These practices are effective
because they help find smart, innovative, and successful ways to combat climate change, restore
our oceans, and build a clean energy future. Another way that they are effective is by meeting
with Congress to make laws that help prevent the environmental issues and creating a brighter,
more promising world for everyone.
