A historical reflection of Transatlantic migration, the relationship

between forced migration and chosen travel, and the oceans role in
fostering a liberal democracy, engaging with liberal subjects. The use
of the ocean to bolster liberal democracy destroys difference and
relationships to the ocean and to the world central to the lives of
people of color. The white citizen maintains power and control over
institutions in democracy, but the abolition of the institutions that
defend and protect the liberal subject creates a space for new
institutions built to defend black people and people of color.
