Two Chilli Task for October So Spicy!

Senior Where to Land

Imagine Chris swimming in a river, 50m
from the bank. She is enjoying her swim
when she notices her husband, who is
looking after the family 100m along the
river bank, calling her for lunch.
She'd like to get back to her family as
quickly as possible. If she can swim at 3
m/sec and run at 7m/sec, how far along
the bank should she land in order to get back as quickly as possible?

Intermediate Fibs
The Fibonacci sequence is 1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21 where each term is the sum
of the two terms that go before it (i.e 1+1=2, 1+2=3, 2+3=5 and so on.)
What is the sixth term of the Fibonacci type sequence that starts
with 2 and 38 as the first two terms?
How many Fibonacci type sequences can you find containing the
number 196 as one of the terms where the sequence starts with two
whole numbers a and b with a < b?

Junior Thousands and Millions

Try a few of these:
-Do human beings live for as long as a million hours?
-If you have been alive for a million seconds, how many birthdays have
you had?
-What year was it one billion minutes ago?
-How long would it take to count to a million?
-Suppose you were worth your weight in 10 baht coins. How much would
you be worth?
-Could you fit the population of Bangkok into one hundred thousand
school mini buses?
-Could you run one thousand metres in one minute?
-Could you walk as much as one hundred thousand miles during your

lifetime?
-Could one thousand drink cans fit into one cubic metre?
Please show your working out as clearly as possible.
