Neuron Cells

Neurons are cells that transmit information in the form of electrical

impulses. The neuron cells is specialised to transfer impulses to other cells,
muscles and glands by means of the brain and Central Nervous System.
Without neurons, the body wouldnt be able to transfer the information
that allows the body to function.

Axon:
The axon
is an

elongated extension of the cell body of a neuron. The axon

carries electrical impulses away from the cell body,
transmitting information to other neurons, muscles and glands.

Myelin Sheath:
A myelin sheath is an insulating layer, made
of a fatty substance, which envelopes the
axon of a neuron. The myelin sheath acts to
insulate the electrical impulses that pass
along the axon, preventing the impulses from
cross firing and speeding up their transmission.
Dendrites:
Dendrites are small extensions of the cell body. They act as receivers of
electrical impulses from neighbouring neurons, transferring the signal to
the cell body.
Schwanns Cells:

Schwanns cells myelinate the individual axons of neurons. The individual
cells act to insulate the nerve fibres.
