SUBJECT VERB AGREEMENT

1. A verb is used to show an action or a state.


2. The verb in a sentence must agree with the subject in person and number.
3. A singular subject takes a singular verb.
Example :

4. An uncountable noun takes a singular verb.


Example:
a) The air is warm.
b)
Water boils at 100 Celcius.
c) How time flies.
5. If the subject is a collective noun, it takes a singular verb.
Example :
a) The family consists of ten members. b)
The team has a lot f
supporters.
c) A troop of soldiers is marching down the road.
6. A plural verb is use with aplural subject.

Mary and Anna
The boys

Plural Verb
are
play
speak
enjoy

twins.
football in the evening.
English at home.
spicy food.

7. You and I are singular pronouns but they take a plural verb.
Example:
a) I watch television after I have finished my homework every evening.
b) You stay here and wait for me to get help.
