Activity 4: Hardy-Weinberg Principle

Homework: Due at the beginning of activity section next week
The Excel file Act4Homework.xls on Blackboard, it contains a list of genotypes for two
different populations. These are two different gene pools within the same species.
For each population, calculate the following:
1. Frequencies for each allele and genotype. Do this separately for every population.
2. Hardy-Weinberg 2 statistic and p-value for each population.
3. Discuss the apparent genetic differences between these two populations in a small
paragraph (3-6 sentences). List some possible reasons for these differences?
What you need to turn in:
1. Turn in the answers to these questions in printed copy next week.
2. A printout of the excel worksheets used to calculate your answers.
Spelling and grammar will be considered when assigning grades to this assignment, although not as much
as content.
