Dearest Student,

I hope this finds you well in your scientific studies. As you know, I have been observing a
phenomenon where a solid turns into a liquid when heated over a flame. After all my
observations, I can only conclude that the chemical properties of the solid cause it to react when
heated and turn to liquid. This is obviously some sort of chemical change, although I cannot, as
yet, determine the chemical equation that will define the reaction. I know that you believe this
might be just a physical change, but I am unclear as to your reasoning. Please respond to me as
soon as possible so that I may take your point under consideration before I present my findings
to the Academy of International Scientists.
Sincerely,

Your task is to write a letter to persuade Ignacio of your position that the formation of a gas does
not necessarily mean that a chemical change has occurred. Include your Name & Period at the
bottom of your letter.
