An Tipyretic Therapy
An Tipyretic Therapy
Antipyretics can be given for symptom relief but they do not alter
outcomes. In patients with cardiovascular or pulmonary disease,
antipyretics may reduce some of the metabolic demands of fever.
Nonsteroidal
antiinflammatory drugs including acetaminophen, ibuprofen, and
aspirin inhibit the synthesis of inflammatory prostaglandins through
the cyclooxygenase pathway and trigger other antipyretic pathways,
reducing hypothalamus-mediated fever.
