CONCILIATION LEADS TO SETTLEMENT OF

DEFAMATION SUIT

In a landmark case instituted against Government of India for
defamation by Dr. Shahbaz Alam, a renowned global pharma
consultant, a mature behavior and decision prevailed and the suit
was settled with removal of litigating matters from the website of
Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO). In a
statement released by Dr. Shahbaz Alam, lot of praise were
forthcoming

for

the

present

DCGI,

Dr.

G.N.

Singh.

The

magnanimous and positive attitude shown by the DCGI, and


extended acceptance of the same, lead to settlement of
defamation suit. With withdrawal on assurance of Dr. Shahbaz
Alam, further stated that the series of new measure introduced by
Dr. G.N. Singh, DCGI, in the Drug Control Organisation, will likely
to change functioning of Drug Administration, in the country. The
notable decision relating to phase (IV) Clinical Trial, strengthening
Pharmacovigilance, Deliberation on E-marketing of drugs, quick
disposal of FDC application are few measure taken by DCGI are
notable and witnessed by international community
While

India

is

always

in

discussion

for

laxity

in

Drug

Administration, with introduction of series of new measures, it is


sure that India, has started gaining importance in International
Forum and time will come when the system adopted by India, will
be taken as a role model by other authorities.
Dr.shahbaz given visionary remark that it is time to join hands
together to all stake holders of pharmaceuticals Industry,
regulators and consultants to work for better India.
Dr. Shahbaz Alam, further stated that decision to introduce phase
(IV) trial in clinical research is prevalent in few countries in the

world. He further, added that the Health Ministry, under able


contribution of Mr. Ali Raza Rizvi and Mr. K.L. Sharma both Joint
Secretaries, is witnessing new changes in medical education and
Food & Drug Administration. It is further, worthy to note that
Honble Prime Minister of India has announced Rs. 1,700 crores
package for revamping Food & Drug Administration, (FDA) and
under able leadership of Mr. Jagat Prakash Nadda, Health Ministry,
acche din aane wale hai.
