Hi Zac lam really worried about Amber’s ability to cope with the English course. So far she has received a C and a C-. Having had a listen to her recorded oral presentation | doubt she will receive a passing grade, | will be marking it later today. When I drafted this work | told Amber what she had to change and improve. | also asked her to make an appointment to see me so we could go through it together; she did not take advantage of this second draft. We are currently studying The Importance of Being Earnest and she still has not read the required reading on D2L (see below). Her draft of her essay is due tomorrow at Midnight. At the start of class today she had only a few sentences written on her essay plan, most of those were incorrectly structured and show that she cannot differentiate between themes and techniques. Today both myself and the student teacher went through her plan with her. She was unable to explain many of the points she was trying to make and could not explain why she had written some of her sentences. | have told her to go home and read the D2L page on themes and the summary and analysis of each act. Hopefully this will increase her comprehension of the text. When asked she says she understands what we are doing yet if pressed further she cannot explain her understanding. Amber does not participate in class unless prompted and even then she usually just reiterates what others have said. She also does not participate in group work. She does not ask questions to clarify her understanding and does not seek out help. lam very concerned about her progress. | have spoken to Andrea about Amber on many occasions and have had two conversations with her mother about her progress. Despite this she is still not being proactive and her grades are continuing to drop. Thanks, Rachel and Sarah
