PRESS RELEASE

1. After communication between the two governments, the nations have arrived
at the conclusion of holding negotiations between the Shan State Army and the
Myanmar government to address the demands of both the parties. Peoples
Republic of china shall do the mediation of these talks.
2. The talks shall be held in the capital city of Shan state, that is Taunggyi, or
Rangoon depending on the response of the respective heads of the Shan State
Army. The Shan State Army leaders will not be imprisoned for the time
duration of the talks.
3. The estimated time phase of the talks shall be 2-3 months. The government of
Myanmar will also ask for an agreement of a ceasefire between the Burmese
military and the Shan State Army for the same duration.
4. The Chinese delegation shall be led by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs of china and the Foreign Affairs Ministry of China shall decide
the composition of the other members of the delegation.
5. The Vice President of Myanmar and officials of the Home Ministry will head
the delegation of Myanmar at the negotiations.
6. The purpose of these talks would be to tackle the problems of refugee influx
into China from the Northeastern region of Shan State, the integration of the
Shan people into Burmese Society and address the socio-economic challenges
that the Shan people face.
7. China also assures its continuation of the policy of non-interference through
the five principles of peaceful coexistence and hence shall not initiate any use
of force and or take any action that shall threaten the sovereignty and political
independence of Myanmar.
