Course Prerequisites:
Completion of undergraduate course in mechanics of materials or strength of materials or permission
of the instruetor.
Class schedule: In Gainesville, the lectures will be shown in NEB 100.
In Shalimar, class meets on Wednesday: 10-12am and Thurday: 10-12 am,
Textbook: Advanced Mechanics of Materials, 6th edition (2003), A.P. Boresi and R.J. Schmidt,
John Wiley & Sons, New York, NY.
Reference book:
‘Theory of Elasticity, S.P. Timoshenko and J.N. Goodier, 3 Edition, McGraw-Hill.
Policies and procedures:
Exams: Three 1-hour exams will be given during the semester during the regularly scheduled
class time, No final exam will be given.
EXAM 1: Wednesday, September 23"; EXAM 2: Wednesday, October 28"; EXAM 3: Friday,
November 21"
No exams will be given prior to the scheduled dates and no makeup exams will be given. No
books, tables, or calculators are allowed.
Homework: Problems will be assigned on Wednesday and collected at the end of the following
Wednesday class meeting, Late homework will not be accepted. However, hardship eases will beconsidered on an individual basis and only if the instructor has been contacted before the due
date of the assignment,
Grades: Grades will be determined using these weights: 25% Homework, 25% Exam 1, 25%
Exam 2, 25% Exam 3,
The grading scale will be:
A= 4.0 (100%) - 3.67; A-=3.66 — 3,33;
B=2.66-2.33; C#=2.32.2.0;
3 D=0.99-0.67;
.99-2.67;
.66-1.33;
