Classroom Management Plan

BeinganEnglishteacher,Iamaloverofstories.Ibelievethateachstudentrepresentsa
uniqueandimportantstory,whichdeservesequalattentionandconsideration,andshouldbe
treatedwithanevenhand.Ibelievethatthediversityoftodaysclassroomsisanabsolutely
wonderfulthing,whichheightenstheculturalawarenessoftheclasscollectiveandhighlightsthe
wideassortmentofdifferingopinions,arguments,andviewpoints.Duringthistimeintheirlives,
itisimportantthatstudentsexperienceandcometounderstandindividualswhosestoriesdiffer
fromtheirown.Studentsinourclassroomsaregoingthroughsomeofthemostimportant
developmentsoftheirlives,soitessentialthatweaseducatorsunderstandhowbesttosupport
andencouragetheseimportantconversationsasourstudentsgrowandprogress.
Whilepresentinmyclassroom,studentsareexpectedtofollowallschoolwiderules.In
additiontothese,Ihavetheseadditionalpolicies:
1)Berespectfulofotherstudentsatalltimes.
Thisincludesstudentwork,studentopinionsandstudentdiscussion.Disrespectofanykindwill
notbetoleratedinmyclassroom,andwillbetakenveryseriously.
2)Cometoclasshavingreadallnecessarymaterials.
Thisisacollaborative,oftendiscussionbasedclassenvironment.Inadditiontoregularreading
prompts,studentswillbegradedfortheirparticipationandpreparednessinactivegroup
discussion.
3)Cellphones,personalmusicplayers,tabletsandothermobileelectronicsarenot
acceptableintheclassroom.

Unlessthestudenthasexplicitpermissionfromtheinstructor,personalelectronicsaretoremain
offandputawayduringclasstime.Studentscaughtwiththeirphoneorotherelectronicsout
willreceiveuptotwoverbalwarningsanythingbeyondthesewillresultinfurtherdisciplinary
action.
4)AcademicDishonestlywillbehandledwithutmostseriousness.
Iexpectthatallworkstudentsturninforthisclassisoriginal,andhasneverbeenpublishedor
utilizedforapreviousassignment.Studentscaughtcheatingonanassignmentwillreceivea
gradeofzerofortheassignmentinquestion,absolutelynoexceptions!
Allclassroomrulesaretobeupheldatteachersdiscretion.Ifastudentrequiresanysort
ofaccommodation,theyshouldconsultwithmeatthebeginningoftheschoolyear.
Inmyclassroom,bulletinboardsandwallspacewillbetastefullydecoratedwithsubject
appropriatematerialssuchasinformationalposters,listsofEnglishterms,andrelevant
vocabularytohelpstudentstosubconsciouslyengrainconcepts.Additionally,therewillbea
wellnesscornerwhichwillbehometoinformationconcerningbothphysicaland
mental/emotionalhealth.Thewellnesscornerwillalsohaveinformationonvariousresources,
bothoncampusandoff,thattheyhaveaccesstoshouldtheyrequireanycounselingorother
help.Studentdeskswillbearrangedintofivepersonpodstoencouragestudentdiscussion,
collaborationandinteraction.Theopenspacewillallowtheinstructortofreelywalkaroundto
observeprogressandmanageclassactivities,aswellasopenupopportunityforclassroom
physicalactivityandactivelearning.

Itismybeliefthataneffectiveandcollaborativeclassroombeginswiththefoundingof
strong,meaningfulrelationshipsbetweeninstructorsandstudents,andtheestablishmentof
mutualrespect.BecauseIbelievethatindepth,respectfuldiscussionaboutamyriadoftopics
andtheopportunityforstudentstocollaborateandlearntogetherisessentialtoanysuccessful
learningenvironment,Iwanttofosterasafespacewithinmyclassroomwherenostudentis
afraidtosharetheirthoughtsandopinionswiththeirclassmatesandpeers.Bullyingor
mistreatmentofanotherstudentortheirideaswillnotbetolerated.
