Education Through Music works with dedicated educators and musicians committed to advancing students
academic and personal development to ensure that all children have access to high-quality music education.

WHAT WE DO



Create and sustain partnerships with inner-city elementary and middle schools.
Provide comprehensive and sequential music instruction as a core subject for every child at our partner schools.
Provide ongoing training and professional development for music and classroom teachers.
Strengthen parent and school involvement and provide support and guidance to principals to build long-term
sustainability.

WHY WE DO IT
Children learn better when music is part of their school routine.
57% of New York City public schools do not have a full-time certified music teacher on staff.1
NYC public schools budgets for arts materials and supplies decreased by 87% from 2007 to 2012.1

OUR IMPACT
ETM enhances students general development, especially confidence and creativity.
ETM instruction is positively associated with students musical knowledge and with students
academic achievement in Math and English Language Arts.
The majority of partner school classroom teachers believe that music education impacts student learning.
Over 90% of partner school principals and classroom teachers rate the program as either excellent or good.
79% of parents believe that ETM has increased the musical activities they share with their children.
